Printing on Cardstock
May 29 2008, 4:03 PM EDT Does anyone have a link for printing on heavy cardstock (over 110 lbs)? With my current project I printed on nice photo paper before gluing to the heavy cardstock, but no matter which adhesive or glue that I used it would start to warp. I solved this by placing the glued items beneath heavy objects, but I'd rather skip that step with the next project. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Printing on Cardstock
May 30 2008, 1:12 PM EDT are you asking how to print on the cardstock or how to adhere it? for adhering it i would recommend a dry adhesive like double sided tape. the red lined tape is one of the strongest but scotch has a good perm adhesive tape also. the problem with using a regular glue is it will seep into the porous paper. you can try a glue made for paper (scrap stores have them). there are even some super strong gluesticks out there that will do the job nicely as well. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Printing on Cardstock
May 30 2008, 2:35 PM EDT I'm wondering what others use for printing on thicker cardstock or if printing & adhering is the way to go. The tape isn't as useful as it does not easily cover the entire surface, as I cut out the items later. Good old Elmers glue spread thin has been more reliable than glue sticks and other low-moisture glues. Even spray adhesives have been spotty with the small pieces I use. I'd rather buy or find a printer that could directly apply the images on the thicker cardstock than having to glue it. Any suggestions? Do you find this valuable? |

May 30 2008, 4:07 PM EDT hmmm...for adhering - i have a xyron that puts adhesive on one side of my cardstock. why can't you print on your cardstock? which printer do you have? i print on heavy cardstock all the time and have for years....is it a feed issue or a print quality issue? RE: Printing on Cardstock
Jun 2 2008, 12:47 PM EDT What kind of cardstock did you use? 110 lb? The kind I am using is three times as thick as 110 lb and will not easily feed through normal inkjet printers, let alone laser. Good idea with the xyron. That could be very useful for many of the larger items. Do you find this valuable? |

Jun 2 2008, 1:12 PM EDT hmmmmm..... with media that thick you would need to use a flat feed printer (such as the 9180 or 9680). with those printer you feed through a straight path - front to back. the media does not bend through the printer. i have fed materials as thick as gatorboard through it without problems. another option is to use a decal type material (waterslide/tshirt/other) which you print on and apply to the thicker media. Jun 2 2008, 5:20 PM EDT Cool, thanks for the tip on the flatbed printers. Do you know if they do well with printing directly onto foamcore? I will likely use a decal material to make application easier and minimize the warping. Do you find this valuable? |

Jun 2 2008, 6:38 PM EDT you will not get the clear, crisp images on foamcore that you get on photo paper or decals. i am usually printing patterns or outlines that will later be cut out/filled in. depending on the size you are looking to print, waterslides are a great option. i have also used tshirt decal material and adhered it on (check out the christmas card box in the creative printing/scanning section). sue martin has an excellent example of waterslides on a canvas project here on the wiki.
